Berlin Center for Digital Transformation at Hannover Messe 2019

The digitization of production provides companies with a high degree of flexibility. This is done by the networking of production systems and processes. The Fraunhofer Berlin Center for Digital Transformation shows how digital networking can efficiently meet the high demands of industrial environments by using optical wireless technology. The potential of this technology and its application will be demonstrated at this year’s Hannover Messe at the Fraunhofer joint booth in hall 2 from April 1 to 5, 2019.

Networking enables the constant exchange of information and interaction between the intelligent machines, objects, processes and people involved in the value chain, both within a company and across companies in real time. Information and communication technology will become the determining element for intelligent digitally networked production in the Smart Factory of the future. The Fraunhofer Berlin Center for Digital Transformation develops technologies and solutions for networking processes, objects, people and systems and offers networked technology and services for digital transformation. The Berlin Center is where the four Fraunhofer Institutes Fraunhofer FOKUS, Fraunhofer HHI, Fraunhofer IPK and Fraunhofer IZM combine their expertise in the fields of information and communication technologies (ICT), data processing, production and microelectronics. Industrial partners and public institutions have the opportunity to cooperate with the participating Fraunhofer Institutes within the framework of research projects.

At Hannover Messe 2019, the Fraunhofer Berlin Center for Digital Transformation is going to present an application solution for high-performance, robust and secure communication in the factory using optical wireless data communication with visible light. A miniaturized production hall demonstrates how the digital networking of several transport systems and machine tools can efficiently meet the high requirements in an industrial environment. This is done using optical wireless technology.
